Strategy Development and Strategic Planning
Our approach to Strategy Development and Strategic Planning has been inspired by our work with not-for-profit organisations and working with voluntary boards. We offer a proven methodology and tailor its application to suit specific circumstances. In general we:
- Begin with a briefing from the board or the chair and the CEO;
- Consult extensively with staff throughout the organisation;
- Form a small ‘working group’ comprising board members, managers, staff and sometimes volunteers;
- Ensure that your statements of ‘purpose’, ‘vision’ and ‘organisational values’ are memorable and meaningful;
- Work closely with the working group and most closely with the CEO and Chair;
- Consult with key external stakeholders as agreed in our planning with you;
- Work with you to review prior experiences of Strategic Planning and the results;
- Offer advice (if needed) about how to ensure the Strategic Plan is useful for its entire life and how to translate its intent into workable operational plans;
- Assist with presentation format and access to graphic art expertise.
We also offer guidance on:
- Cascading strategic plans into overall operational plans, program plans, workgroup plans and individual plans and
- Developing measure of performance which are meaningful at all levels and enable progress against high level strategic plans to be measured.
Purpose, vision and organisational values development
Meaningful statements of ‘purpose’ (sometimes called ‘mission’), ‘vision’ and organisational ‘values’ provide an essential foundation for successful strategy development and implementation. Our approach to developing purpose, vision and values involves organisational leaders and staff at all levels in a process designed to achieve results over the long term. We believe that appropriately crafted, communicated and operationalised, purpose, vision and values can be key drivers of organisational performance.
Stakeholder consultation
Our experience of designing and implementing stakeholder consultation processes includes both internal and external stakeholders and multi-stakeholder consultation. We tailor our approach to each specific assignment depending on needed outcomes and practical considerations such as geographic location and spread of stakeholders. Stakeholders’ past experience of consultation is usually an essential design consideration.
Effective stakeholder consultation requires supporting communication processes which enable stakeholders to be clear about their potential contribution and acknowledge for their actual contribution. Where appropriate we facilitate feedback so that stakeholders are made clear about how the project has benefited from their contribution.
Stakeholder consultation is integral to our approach to Strategy Development and Strategic Planning.
